Career Services offers a number of assessment instruments to help students with career planning needs, including those listed below under in-office assessments.  These assessment instruments are available free to currently enrolled students at Ohio State University at Marion.

On-Line Assessments and Guidance

FOCUS - Computer Guided Assessment Program

FOCUS is a computer web-based system designed to assist individuals with career and educational planning. The FOCUS  system enables users to discover and learn about career options related to their personal attributes.

Users of FOCUS learn to make realistic decisions about their goals and plans, how to self-manage their careers and the importance of adaptability in these times of change.

On-Line Career Assessments and Guidance Websites

The following sites offer career assessment instrument on-line which may be free or for a fee. Others may provide useful information regarding career decision making.

In-Office Assessments

Self-Directed Search

Based on John Holland's Theory of Vocational Choice, the Self-Directed Search (SDS) examines activities you enjoy, occupations that appeal to you, and your own estimates of abilities. The SDS is self-administered and self-scored and can be completed in approximately 30 minutes.

The result of the inventory is a summary code that will help you identify various majors and occupations that might suit your interests. It is important to keep in mind that the SDS only examines one aspect of your work-related self and is, therefore, only a beginning, not an end in itself.

Myers-Briggs Personality Type Inventory

A personality profile designed to investigate individual personality preferences. Widely used in both business and educational settings, the MBTI can help in identifying a career path compatible with your personality type.

Career Exploration Inventory

A guide for exploring work, leisure, and learning. This instrument will help you identify which career, leisure, and educational goals best relate to your interests. It also will help you locate information on occupations that you may wish to consider more carefully.

Strong Interest Inventory

One of the most widely used assessments of occupational interests and is designed to compare your interests to individuals in many different occupations.
