Calling
A calling is a pathway pursued throughout the course of your life that integrates what you do to sustain life with who you are as a person.
 
Career
"Career" is the totality of work -paid and unpaid -one does in his/her lifetime.
 
Career Development
The total constellation of psychological, sociological, educational, physical, economic, and chance factors that combine to influence the nature and significance of work in the total lifespan of any given individual. 
 
Career Exploration
Introduction of occupational and career worlds which typically include assessment of interests, abilities and personality traits, occupational studies, and research pertaining to the world of work. These activities culminate with the combination of career and job information with the individuals' personal attributes to initiate the personal career planning process.
 
Career Planning
Career Planning is an ongoing career development process through which learners attempt to understand their personal, family, school, work, and community experiences and the importance they may have in making career and lifestyle choices.
 
Job
An identified set of duties and responsibilities -- paid or unpaid -- assigned to be performed usually on a sustaining, ongoing basis by one person. "Position" is a set of competencies (skills and knowledge) required as a component of the overall mission of the agency, organization, or setting in which the position exists.
 
Job Shadowing
A job shadow is a worksite learning experience that takes place at a business in your community. It usually lasts from 3 to 6 hours during which a students spends time on-on-one with an employee observing daily activities and asking questions about the job and workplace.
 
Informational Interview
An interview initiated by you with an employer or someone in an occupational field you are interested in for the purpose of learning about an occupational field and to obtain advice about where your qualifications might fit and / or whether or not your background is suitable for the field.
 
Occupation
 One's primary work task in the world of paid employment.
 
Vocation
One's primary work task at any given period of life
