Student
Organizations
How
do I join a student organization?
There
are many ways to get involved with student organizations. Not only
will you have an opportunity to meet new friends and serve the university
community, but also studies show that students who get involved with
campus organizations tend to do better academically. The Office of
Student Activities encourages you to find an organization and make
a contact!
New
Beginnings
1. Attend the initial meetings of student organizations. Many meeting
times are listed in Buckeye Briefs. Also, look for flyers and posters
advertising events and meetings.
2. Come to the Office of Student Activities in the Alber Student
Center. The staff members will be happy to help you get involved.
How
do I start a new student organzation?
Various
student organizations are registered with the Office of Student
Activities on an annual basis. These organizations exist because
students formed them based on their own personal interests. If you
do not find a group that meets your needs, think about forming your
own student organization. Herešs how to form your own student organization:
1. Have three students to serve as student leaders for the group
(all of whom must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per quarter
at OSU Marion, and maintain a quarterly grade point average of at
least a 2.0).
2. Enlist the support of a faculty or Administrative & Professional
(A&P) staff member who is employed on a full-time basis with the
University.
3. Prepare a Constitution that outlines your student organization
name, purpose, and governance/operating proce-dures. Once you have
secured these requirements, stop by the Office of Student Activities
in the Alber Student Center for a registration form, which must
be completed every year, and anytime a student leader or adviser
changes. Once you register your organization and are approved, you
will receive information about funding for your group. If you have
questions, call 740.389.6786, extension 6226.
