Ohio State Marion golfer wins
individual honors
Dixon shoots 73 to lead a
statewide field of 80 student-athletes
Alan Dixon, junior golfer for The Ohio State University at
Marion, was presented
the overall medalist award at the Ohio University Zanesville
Tracer Golf Classic, Saturday, April 26, 2008.
Dixon shot a 73 for the day, leading a
field of 80 golfers who participated in the tournament. At
one point, he was 4 under par during a 7-hole stretch of the
18-hole course. The Tracer Golf Classic includes all Ohio
Regional Campus Conference (ORCC) competition, as well as
four at large teams from outside the conference. He also
finished runner-up at Ohio State Newark’s Golf Invitational
the day prior.
Although he won individual honors at
the ORCC State Tournament in 2006, Dixon feels his work on
the links and in practice continue to pay dividends and his
game has become more consistent.
Based on current ORCC standings Dixon
is unofficially third in the overall statewide individual
golf standings. Because Ohio State Marion regularly
competes against Ohio regional campus conference
competition, but is not an official member of the
conference, Dixon’s standing is unofficial.
A lifelong resident of Marion, Dixon
began golfing at the age of 9. He excelled as a member of
the Pleasant High School golf team for four years. He has
been part of the Scarlet Wave golf team since enrolling at
Ohio State Marion three years ago.
Dixon is majoring in finance and
currently takes classes on both the Marion and Columbus
campuses. Upon graduation he plans to continue working with
Wachovia Securities in Marion, where he has served in an
internship role for the past seven months.
Our sister
campus, OSU Lima won the team championship with a team score
309.
Participating team members:
1) Alan Dixon 2) Ray Layne 3) Mitch Vanhoose 4) Levi

Attention Members of the 2008 Golf Team
Here is information
regarding how we are going to conduct our weekly fall practices:
* Each of you are to
view one 54
minute video on the "Rules and Etiquette"
of the game of golf. You will need to view
this video at the student center only and you can
sign-out this video from my office or the front desk of
the student activities office. There will be a sign-out
sheet that you must sign indicating that you
viewed this video. The video can only be
seen in room 112B in the student center. You can not
take this video out - home, etc. You will not receive
your 2-hour credit unless you view this video.
* I have practice golf balls and driving balls that
you can use to practice your golf swing. I have putting
cups for you to practice your putting, and I have
driving pads for you to practice your driving. For
driving, you will strike the ball off a rubber tee and
the ball will be driven into the curtain in the gym (so
you won't have to chase balls). You may practice in the
gymnasium at open times when there is not a class or
event in the gym. You will just need to come into my
office and sign-out this equipment. For this type of
practice, you will need to bring in your own clubs; if
you don't have clubs yet, you may use the Universities.
If the weather is awful, this is a great
opportunity for you to come in and practice your golf swing
and work on your golf swing techniques.
* As a team, I have us going to Kings Mill
Golf Club
on every Thursday to get in a round of golf (18 holes
max). You may go there at any time on Thursday (with
the exception from 4-6pm - league play) to play golf.
Please remember, they are allowing us to practice on
their course. Club management is allowing us to play
for free (waive green fees), but I need you to pay for a
golf cart $6 per person or $1.50 for a hand cart. The
only Thursday's you can use the course is yet to be
determined for the fall season. After May 15th, our spring
season is over and if you want to play at Kings Mill,
you will pay the regular rates. Please respect club
management decisions and always show your appreciation
for them allowing us to practice on their course - Thank
them.
*
Through this upcoming fall season, I
will schedule team instructional practice times. It is
highly suggested that you attend these practice times, but not
required (since we are a commuter campus, it is impossible
for all team members to show up for a practice - class &
work schedules interfere).
*
Please practice on your own
when you can and provide me your scorecards
weekly. Provide me with your scores either via e-mail
(scorecard turned in later) or deliver your scorecard to
my office before each Thursday evening's deadline @
9:00pm. At that time, I will determine who is going to
each tournament based on your scores during that week.
Your scores are the determining factor on who is chosen
to play in the weekends tournament. In order to be eligible for each tournament, here is the
method that we use to determine who participates:
- Must be a member of
the Scarlet Wave Golf Team
- Must have own
equipment; golf bag, clubs, balls, tees, shoes, etc.
- You must have
practiced (per week) at least a minimum of 2 days of
scores (9 holes each day) OR one day score (18 holes
one day) during that week to be eligible
- Must turn in
scorecard to me or submit me your scores via e-mail
(scorecard turned in at day of tournament) before
weekly deadline; Thursday @ 9:00pm
- Submitted weekly
scores will be tabulated on our excel spreadsheet, and the players
with the best overall averages will be asked to
participate in that week's tournament
- Weekly scores start
on Friday and ends on Thursday @ 9:00pm
- If unforeseen
circumstances prevent members from submitting scores
(such as bad weather during the week), the golf
coach will decide who plays in that weekly
tournament.
I will notify the weekly
top 5 players on Thursday evening after 9:00pm. If you
are chosen you will have the choice to participate in
Friday's tournament and/or Saturday's. If there is a
vacant spot in one or both tournaments, I will then call
the 6th best weekly player (and so forth) until I fill
the spot(s) for the team.
Remember, for each tournament that we are participating
in, we can only take one (1) team consisting of only 5
team members. If there is a group of you (5 other team
members) that would like to participate in a tournament,
but are not one of the top five that has been chosen,
you will need to inform me that you would like to
participate in a tournament so that I can register you.
Your team will then be required to pay the tournament
fee (~$125 per team / $25 per player) and provide your
own transportation to the tournament.
Thank you and enjoy the great weather!
Coach Sisler
