''BEELZEBUBS'' Singing Group Slated for November 8 Performance on Marion Campus WDIF Mix 94.3 FM, Marion Technical College, and The Ohio State University at Marion are pleased to welcome the modern musical stylings of Beelzebubs, an a cappella men's group from Tufts University in Boston. The group can easily be described as ''a little bit hip-hop, a little bit classic harmony, and a whole lot of excitement!'' To learn more about Beelzebubs, visit www.bubs.com.   Marion Campus to Host College Planning Overview As a community service, Marion Technical College and The Ohio University at Marion will host a College Planning Overview in Morrill Hall, room 100 on the Marion Campus, Tuesday, November 5, 6 ­ 8 p.m. The planning overview is geared for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors, their parents, or anyone currently considering pursuit of a higher education. The informative session is comprehensive in scope and is meant to provide college planning guidelines and important steps that are universal to most colleges, technical schools, and universities. Joel Liles, Director of Admissions at Marion Technical College and Matt Moreau, Director of Admissions at Ohio State Marion will lead attendees through topics such as: basic admissions objectives; knowing yourself and your reasons for attending college; college characteristics to consider; listing, comparing, and visiting colleges; applying for admission; developing a plan to finance your college education, ACT vs. SAT; open vs. selective admissions criteria; home school issues; financial aid services; other college funding sources; using the web a college planning tool and more. The evening will end with a question and answer session and open discussion of issues and challenges facing those beginning the college experience. For more information on this free public information session contact the Office of Admissions at Marion Technical College, 740-389-INFO or The Ohio State University at Marion Office of Admissions at 740-389-OSUM.   Kuhn Gallery Exhibit Open to Public The Wayne and Geraldine Kuhn Fine Arts Gallery, located at 1465 Mount Vernon Avenue in Ohio State Marion¹s Morrill Hall, will hold a free public artist reception Monday, October 14, at 4:30 p.m., to highlight artist Ian Ruffino¹s "Romantic Photographs" exhibit. Art enthusiasts are encouraged to attend and take advantage of the cultural and educational opportunity to meet the artist. Ruffino will be on hand to discuss the inspiration and details behind each displayed work. Refreshments will also be served. Ruffino's work deals with the idea of what a photograph is as an object and uses the basic components of a photograph: paper, pigment, and emulsion to build his "Romantic Photographs". The artist¹s thinking and methodology stem from his training as a printmaker/papermaker, but his "pictures", as the artist refers to them, look more like paintings. Much of Ruffino's work is inspired by an on-going study of his own personal culture and psychology. He has treated his earlier work as a personal case study and reflected on his habits; finding certain tendencies reoccurring such as: unifying elements or structures (wallpaper patterns, dot patterns, or a uniform surface texture) which always coincide with organic or formless elements or ideas (blood stains, sprayed pigment, splotchy textures, or an enigmatic landscape). Ruffino's work arranges a balance between structure and non-structure and presents a romantic snapshot as a piece of a larger community begging not to be forgotten. A graduate of The Ohio State University, where he earned his Master¹s of Fine Arts degree, Ruffino currently works as a lecturer in the university¹s Department of Art. The Ruffino Exhibition is the first in a yearlong series of six exhibits, featuring both local and regional artists. November 6 ­ December 18 features the photographic exhibit, "Objects of Interest," by Lew Lause of Marion. Coming in January of next year, Scott Bennett and Juliellen Byrne will exhibit "Figures of Speech: Recent Work in Clay." Mary Morrison is the featured artist in March and April 2003 with her exhibit entitled, "Remembering August". Leading up to the end of the spring quarter 2003, Ohio State Marion¹s Art Students will display their works in the Kuhn Gallery, and the following month features the work of some of the talented artisans who make up the faculty and staff of Ohio State Marion and Marion Technical College. As part of the university¹s community outreach and engagement, exhibitions at the Wayne and Geraldine Kuhn Fine Arts Gallery are free to the public. The university feels a responsibility to provide north central Ohio a gallery to enhance the educational, cultural, and aesthetic benefits art provides. Back to Top Volleyball League at Marion Campus Open to Public The Ohio State University at Marion and Marion Technical College are looking for area volleyball enthusiasts interested in forming a volleyball team to join the campus co-ed volleyball league. League play is open to the public. Games will be held at the Alber Student Center on the Marion campus. The first series of games begins Wednesday, October 9, 7:00 p.m. There is a registration fee for teams that do not have a minimum of three OSU/MTC student players.
