KUHN FINE ARTS GALLERY AT OSU MARION HOSTS SIX WEEK EXHIBITION OF CENTRAL OHIO ARTISTıS CONCEPTUAL DRAWINGS OF DOMESTIC FAMILIARITY

The artwork of central Ohio artist Steve Stelling is on display in the Wayne and Geraldine Kuhn Fine Arts Gallery located in Morrill Hall on the campus of The Ohio State University at Marion, Friday, June 21 through Friday, August 2.

The public is invited to meet Stelling at an artist reception Monday, July 15, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., with a program beginning at 4:45 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.

Stelling, currently an Adjunct Instructor of Art at Columbus State Community College, has been displaying his art in galleries throughout Ohio and Illinois since 1994. In 1999, as a graduate student at Ohio State, Stelling displayed his works during a student painting and drawing exhibition on the Marion Campus.

According to Stelling, his current exhibit, "Spring Line," incorporates hybrid images that simultaneously recall objects of domestic familiarity, (suburban architecture, backyards, toys), while suggesting an exotic alternative.

"The transformations made to an observed image are cultivated by allowing lines to meander away from their original idea until they suggest a new, less familiar structure," Stelling explained. "In some instances, these images are conjured by the spatial surprises and temporal tensions that occur through cutting, splicing, and layering disparate drawings."

Stelling uses a process in which color and/or washes of ink are sparingly applied to treat salient images.

To his credit, Stelling lists twenty-three separate exhibitions dating back to 1994.
