The Ohio State University at Marion
Since 1957
January 14, 1957–Ohio State Trustees approves study of regional campus plans.
May 13, 1957–The Ohio State University Board of Trustees approves Marion and Newark as the first sites for Ohio State regional campus locations and officially named Ohio State University at Marion.
May 1957–Eugene Maynard selected as first director of campus.
October 1, 1957–The Ohio State University regional campus opens in Marion with classes held in the evening at Harding High School.
1965–Business, industry and individuals raise more than $600,000 to purchase the 180 acre site east of Marion for the campus setting. The Ohio General Assembly allocates $1.8 million for Morrill Hall.
October 1966–Ground breaking for first building on the Ohio State Marion campus.
1968–Dedication ceremonies held for Morrill Hall.
March 26, 1968–404 students along with faculty and staff moved from Marion Harding High School to Morrill Hall on the Marion campus.
1971–Marion Technical College is founded and begins offering classes in Morrill Hall.
1974–$2 million is allocated for technical education building on the Marion campus
1975–Groundbreaking for technical education building building takes place in May
Spring 1976–First campus building officially named Morrill Hall in honor of James Lewis (Lew) Morrill, a distinguished leader in higher education and a native of Marion.
1976–The dedication of the building for Marion Technical College is held in October. A request is made to the Ohio Board of Regents for a student center on campus.
August 1978–Marion Campus Prairie is dedicated.
1977-1980–Design meetings are held for creation of a student center.
November 1979–Francis Hazard named director of Ohio State Marion.
1981-1983–Funding of $2.175 million for student center building and renovations of existing facilities is appropriated by House Bill 552. Jester, Jones, and Feltham architect firm is selected.
1984–Funds for the Student Center are released in June.
1986–The Student Center (later known as the Alber Student Center) opens.
July 1988–State designates Ohio State Marion Prairie as landmark.
October 1995–Five Nights on Campus, a cultural and performing arts outreach program begins.
June 2006–New Student Services Building dedicated
