January 14, 1957–Ohio State Trustees approve study of regional school plans.

May 13, 1957 –The Ohio State University Board of Trustees approves Marion (and Newark) as the first sites for Ohio State regional campus locations and is officially named Ohio State University at Marion.

May 1957 –Eugene Maynard is selected as first director of Ohio State University at Marion.

October 1, 1957 –The Ohio State University at Marion opens with classes held in the evening at Harding High School.
